Processes of work are an important step to ensuring consistency and sustainability of the organisation, however processes are often created or developed without keeping uppermost in mind the necessity to support the organisation in how it operates. A focus on the local optima, or how "best practice" highlights behaviours in a particular department, when developing processes will usually ensure that the integrated system of processes as a whole is less effective.
When developing, modifying or implementing processes or procedures in an organisation, we believe it critical that processes of work, and the corresponding data that is created, are always structured to support the organisation as a system in how it executes its business.
Two outcomes from this approach are different departments working in greater alignment for the benefit of the business, and improvements to the integration of information between departments, leading to better decision support across the organisation.
